The Ferguson Report Outstanding Achievement Awards:
John Grohol, psychcentral.com Richard Rockefeller, Health Commons Institute

John Grohol, Psy.D.
Webmaster, psychcentral.com and Mental Health Net,
Author, The Insider's Guide to Mental Health Resources Online

Back in 1994 (prehistoric time by Net standards) when I first began studying online health resources, an e-colleague named John Grohol saved me months of research by e-mailing annotated listings of all the self-help mailing lists and newsgroups currently available. When the World Wide Web came along, John provided annotated listings of the best Web sites as well. He's still at it, and his listings are still the definitive guide to the field. John is also the founder of two dozen newsgroups devoted to psychology, self-help, and online support. Late News Flash--as we go to press, John tells me that he has just signed on to develop new mental health content for drkoop.com.

Richard Rockefeller, M.D.
Founder and President, Health Commons Institute
Richard was one of the first medical professionals to realize (1) that the doctor-patient relationship is fast becoming the doctor-patient-computer relationship, and (2) that this is a good, not a bad thing, because (3) new computer systems can free physicians from the "tyranny of knowledge" and help them spend more time attending to the personal needs of their patients.. Richard started Health Commons Institute, in Falmouth, Maine, in 1992, to help health professionals understand how new technologies can serve both human and scientific needs. He and his colleagues have done exactly that.
